Suzuyashokudo
A moment to unwind in the city.
In Mizue, Suzuya Shokudo’s signature dish is katsu curry featuring braised pork cutlet so tender it yields to a spoon. Discover this neighborhood diner, offering free rice upgrades, diverse toppings, and evening sake pairings.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
While katsu curry typically brings to mind the firm bite of thick-cut loin or fillet, the signature braised pork cutlet curry at Suzuya Shokudo easily defies those expectations. Press a spoon through the crisp, golden-fried crust, and the well-seasoned braised pork flakes apart effortlessly, melding with the rich depth of the slow-simmered curry sauce. Layering gentle spices over a comforting, home-style base, the curry pairs remarkably well with the natural sweetness of the tender meat.
Another appealing aspect of the diner is how easily meals can be customized to individual appetites. Rice portions can be upgraded from the standard regular serving (200 g) to medium (300 g) at no extra charge, with options extending further from large up to "giga" sizes depending on your hunger. Beyond the braised pork cutlet, the curry selection offers plenty of variety, including a version topped with cheese, a fragrant and juicy chicken thigh karaage curry, and an unpretentious home-style curry rice. The kitchen also serves hearty rice bowls such as stamina don with special sauce and various styles of katsu don, making it simple to find a satisfying meal for any mood.
Located on the second floor of a building near Mizue Station, the space is fitted with both counter and table seating, well suited for a solo lunch or an unhurried drink in the evening. Alongside beer, the diner stands out for a selection of sake carefully curated by the owner, drawing patrons who come specifically to pair their dinner with a glass. With takeout available as well, the shop functions as a dependable local fixture, whether for a quick bite after work or an easy weekend meal.
